Getting Back to Yoga

Toward the end of my senior year of high school a friend convinced me to go to a heated yoga class with her, and I fell in love. Since yoga's expensive I could only go every once in a while, but after going a couple of times I felt my daily life shifting. I stopped drinking soda, I started eating more fruit, and overall I was living a more healthy lifestyle.

I had so much more energy and felt so much better about myself in general when I was doing yoga. Unfortunately I worked too much toward the end of the summer, and leaving for college forced me to leave my loved yoga studio. I swore to myself that I would go once I got into the flow of things at school, but I never did.

A couple of weeks ago I stopped drinking soda again and my friends and I started talking about getting back to the gym. I was excited, but I am a very lazy person, so most of the battle of going to the gym is physically getting the motivation to get there. My roommate, a friend and I finally went to the gym together last week, and it was actually super refreshing. We didn't push too hard, but just being in the atmosphere was enough to make us want to keep going. (plus they have delicious smoothies that you can reward yourself with at the end, my favorite is the Peanut Butter Banana one)

My roommate and I were so motivated that we got ourselves to a free yoga class offered in our schools recreation center for 8am this morning! I thought I was going to be exhausted, but it was actually really nice. It also helped me realize how out of shape I was. Positions I used to be able to do easily I could barely get into today.

After this morning I'm excited to go to the next class and get back into a healthy routine. My mother this that every time I say I want to get healthy I mean that I want to drop 40 pounds and eat celery for every meal. That is extremely wrong. I've never been someone to obsess over how they look, or how much they weigh. And my goal is not to be stick thin. I love food, good food, I absolutely hate vegetables and salads make me want to run. Working out makes me feel healthy and I want to get healthy to feel better. I shouldn't be out of breath from walking up the stairs, and I definitely need to be able to open a jar of Nutella on my own.

Are you getting back into your healthy routine, or are starting yoga again or maybe for the first time? Let me know! and keep me accountable!

Happy Living

xoxo
