The Carrie Diaries

The Carrie Diaries

Sex and the City on HBO always has been, and always will be my favorite show, so when I saw a prequel to the show in a bookstore over two years ago I had to buy it. Too bad I didn't start reading the book until I heard they were making a show out of it. I think I subconsciously didn't want to read it for the sole reason that if it wasn't good I thought it would ruin the whole series for me. I was happily surprised!

The background of the infamous Carrie Bradshaw was definitely not what I was expecting, but it made sense. Candace Bushnell's choice to place Carrie in a small town seemed to add another dimension to her character, and seeing how her childhood friendships changed allowed me to connect with the character I've loved for so long on a more personal level. This fun little novel tells of Carries first friends, first crush, first kiss, first Manolo and first friend in NYC: Samantha Jones.

Fan of Sex and the City or not, this book should definitely be on your summer read list. It's the perfect balance between the guilty-pleasure teen romance novels we all love, and a care-free easy read.

Happy Reading!
